scattered across the room
empty emotion shell casings
fallen from glances shot
from her loaded expression

cigarette smoke silences
hung stale in awkward air
choking each in turn with
pregnant coughing fits

whisky sour sentences
bleeding down his throat
haemorrhaging sincerity
with liquid lurid lust

cheap perfume pretences
leaving facsimile lips
cherry painted prints
collared and corralled

his trench coat demeanour
and her high heel manner
fluttering like fan blown ribbons
through the evening’s humidity
